“AN IDEA? LET US EXPLORE IT, TEST IT, IMAGINE IT; TILL,WE DESIGN THE IMPOSSIBLE.”
RICHMOND OWUSU-AGYEI //
FOUNDER + CREATIVE DIRECTOR //
Born and raised in West Africa Ghana, I have long aspired to become an architect, ever since I first utilized the pencil –An artist’s greatest tool. The 3rd child of merchants Joyce Nkrumah and Daniel Owusu-Agyei, my father a travelling merchant was fortunate to shadow an architect but could not practice it due to the lack firms within the country. Inspired by his early work, I quickly realized my passion for art; but, did not know that this discovery would set in motion many events that would broaden and mold my perception of space. I grew up near a guild and would draw and construct intricate models using the rejected wood blocks with my elder brother. This was my introduction into architecture and design. I did not know that this was called architecture, but I knew that I can construct my ideas.
Studying Architecture at Pratt institute where I received my B.Arch in 2014 and a secondary degree in Graphic Design at Bronx Community College in 2007, I have developed an interdisciplinary practice in innovative design that encompasses strategy, design and technology. My projects have included architectural design, architectural visualization in (CGI)computer graphics imagery, design of brand identity, product design, environment design, websites and user interfaces, with many projects ranging across multiple medias. Some of my clients have included S.L.A.S.E ( CUNY Bronx Community College), Okore Ministries, RORO Technologies, Face2Face Africa, and Babu Group to name a few. With over 10 years of practice in design and a growing portfolio, one thing that remains prominent in my approach to design is my ability to tell my clients stories by bridging their ideas and the vernacular.
Having developed an interdisciplinary practice in innovative design through research and honing my skills learning various design and 3d software to work more efficiently, I enjoy prototyping my ideas with Computer Graphics. To understand how a structural system works or creating a logo for a client, I often use 3d software to perceive how it will be displayed. In addition to CGI, I enjoy photography as a means to explore a city, the people and the possibility of generating an idea from what I see through my lens
